Group 13003 will explore the possible car hacking of EDR units within a vehicle. The project’s objective is ‘To what extent can the data stored in an Event Data Recorder (EDR) be trusted after a deployment level crash?’. As this area of research is relatively new and no previous car hacking projects have done any preliminary work, the group aims to build a strong foundation of knowledge on EDR units along with determining possible EDR security concerns. The project plan will break down the main objective into three primary tasks. These tasks will be: ‘How is the data stored and secured and is the data accurate?’, ‘Can we change what EDR data is recorded?’, and ‘Can we change what EDR data is read?’. Each task will be assigned an owner, with John Vlass task 1, Amirsalar Aryakia task 2, and William Circelli task 3.
