The EEE Projects Lab contains 24 benches, each with a digital storage oscilloscope, arbitrary function generator, tri-channel power supply, multimeter and PC. Hot desks with specialist RF equipment and logic analysers are also available nearby. The Computing Lab on the other hand is more suited towards software projects and contains 18 desks, each with a higher-end PC. The Electrical projects labs also has benches with the same equipment as in EM307 in most of its areas, however with closer access to test gear and staff support more suited to (higher-power) electrical projects such as solar test rigs and three-phase power.

Introduction

ECMS has various areas for EEE Final Year (Honours) and Masters project students to obtain technical support, access a lab PC, or use various tools and equipment for their project work through. The main purposes of this page is to list these showing access times, and for keeping track of project bench allocations.

General facilities

Below is a list of areas around ECMS for general support and facility access. An overview of these areas and general procedures for gaining support were given during your Introductory Session. Please refer to its documentation on MyUni for more info.

All areas (excluding those with general 24/7 access) are not available on weekends and public holidays unless noted.

Area: Location: Access times:
ECMS TSI (Electronics and Instrumentation) Team Workshop NG07/NG09 Open weekdays 9am-1pm, 2pm-5pm. General technical support.
ECMS Electronics Store (part of ECMS TSI (E&I)) EM316 Open weekdays 10am-1pm, 2pm-4pm. General technical support. Specialist equipment training and soldering rework.
EEE Projects Lab Workshop EM315 Accessible weekdays 10am-4pm (after induction). Contains specialist PCB prototyping equipment (listed in last section of this page).
Electrical projects labs electronics prototyping area NG08 Accessible weekdays 10am-4pm (after induction). As above (including a PCB mill), but with a simpler soldering setup, mainly for use by EEE students working around the area and mecheng/other groups.
Honours/Masters Computing Suite IW2.32 Accessible 24/7.
Faculty Creation Studio Ground floor, Engineering South
ECMS Store (project purchasing delivery point) NG33 Open weekdays 8am-12pm.

In addition to the above, there are several areas groups can request a dedicated project bench in, outlined in the next section.

Project bench allocations

Again, further information should have been presented during the Introductory Session, for which documentation should be available for through MyUni.

Below is info on access times and the current state of bookings. A hyphen (-) indicates not allocated.

An induction needs to be completed in order to gain access to the areas below and be allocated a bench.

Access times

Area: Access times (after induction):
EEE Projects Lab (EM307) Open weekdays 7am-9pm and weekends 9am-5pm.
EEE Computing Lab (IW2.31): Accessible 24/7.
