David Andersson - Applying Internet Protocol Packet Visualization to Debriefing
Project supervisor: Matthew Sorell
Aims: The aim of the study is to make recommendations about how Internet Protocol packet visualization can be used to support the debriefing of the Locked Shields NATO defence exercise. To achieve this existing packet visualization methods, such as those discussed in the literature review, will be reviewed to determine what types of attacks specified in the Locked Shields NATO defence exercise 2015 report may be gainfully visualized using the methods. Additionally, recommendations will be made to improve the existing visualization methods, specifically to help network security professional understand the presented data more easily. For those attack types that cannot be usefully visualized using existing methods the required changes and upgrades to the existing tools will be explored. A particular focus will be how attacks that exploit the IPv4 to IPv6 transition mechanisms and application layer attacks can be visualized.

Adrian Daniele - Authenticating Ethernet Devices Using A Digital Fingerprint
Project supervisor: Matthew Sorell
Aims: To analyse information transmitted across Ethernet between devices to identify characteristics that are specific to each device. This may involve Internet Protocol (IP) Identification Numbers, error rates, time between transmission or anything that can be observed and saved as a fingerprint for the device. The final goal would be to build a software tool that can be used to observe and build a fingerprint for each device. This could then monitor the connection to see if the device has been changed and alert the user.
